“Hello World,” – yep it works. I’ve been starting up new projects with that phrase since about 2005. I pride myself in being quick to see new technologies, that can be utilized in each project I move forward with. Websites and web development, for example, have become important for many reasons, but one is still probably the most important: presence. If you don’t have an efficient, easily navigable website, people will wonder if you actually exist on the web, or if you’re worth existing on the web. We constantly strive to become known by as many as possible, and impress upon those that do notice us yet. You do want to be present in the web, but you must have a graceful presence. If you hire out someone and they release a well polished site, that you can keep up-to-date as a medium between you and the rest of the world, great. If you somehow end up with slow, poorly designed website, that you barely get to update, and have no way have communicating with your customers, you’re probably going to be worse off than you were without the website. These websites, Twitter accounts and Facebook “like” pages are all here to communicate one big thing: your company is available, in the present, and useful. So show your colors, by having a website done correctly.

I come from a relatively small town setting in Minnesota, with a large, but very close family. From that small town feel and close family, I took these core values with me: community, initiative, and cooperation. These three values closely relate to another philosophy I tend to bring up: Open Source. Open Source is not only a way of developing software, it’s a way of living. It says that we can all move forward together with cooperation with hard work.
